Publication date: August 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
In Domengrad, there are rules all must live by: Fear the Gods. Worship the Magicians. Forsake the Iconoclasts.
To Annabelle Klein, the rules laid down by the Magicians are the mere ramblings of stuffy old men. As far as she’s concerned, the historic Iconoclasts, heretics who nearly destroyed the Magicians so long ago, are nothing but myth. She has much more important matters to worry about.
Heiress to a manor mortgaged down to its candlesticks and betrothed to her loathsome, lecherous cousin, sixteen-year-old Annabelle doubts the gods could forsake her more.
Then Annabelle is informed of her parents’ sudden and simultaneous deaths, and all of the pigment drips out of her skin and hair, leaving her colorless. Within moments, Annabelle is invisible and forgotten by all who know her.
Living like a wraith in her own home, Annabelle discovers that to regain her color she must solve the mystery behind her parents’ murders and her strange transformation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of the Magicians’ monks, with their all-black eyes and conjoined minds, have usurped control of Annabelle’s family manor. An Iconoclast is rumored to be about—a person who they claim goes unseen, unheard, and lost to memory, yet is the greatest threat to all of Domengrad. For the first time in a hundred years, the monks plan to unleash the dire wolves of old.
Their only target: Annabelle.

[Review] The Do-Over by Charlotte Penn Clark

The Do-Over
Charlotte Penn Clark
(Extra Credit #2)
Published: May 1st 2017

It’s war….

Matt and Annika have History. When they first met *(&*@# hit the fan. Now a year later, they’ve both landed in a pilot class for students in trouble and sparks are still flying….

Because Matt thinks Annika is a snarky, mean-spirited, bitter, vengeful—albeit beautiful—bitch. And Annika thinks Matt is a phony, lying, untrustworthy, too smooth—albeit super-hot—jerk. When they are forced to work together can they untangle the mess of their past and pull off a do-over?

Extra Credit is a New Adult series that takes place on a college campus and puts three unlikely couples together to see what happens. Each novella is in dual point-of-view with a happy ending that can be read as a standalone, though they’re better together…! The series includes sexy times that are only meant for readers over 18.

I receive an arc of this book in exchange of an honest review.

One thing I decided about play fights (or actual fights in this case) as foreplays is that it. Is. HOT. And that basically defines this book, hot. If you're like me and you enjoy a good love hate relationship, this book is definitely for you.

Our main characters, Matt and Annika (who's Estonian) had quite of a rough start with each other, but you can never deny the chemistry. I just can't stop grinning over their banters. The whole book was nothing but utterly enjoyable. The pace was quite fast, which is a plus in my opinion due to my personal preference. The author had succeeded in keeping the readers entertained by not putting anything unnecessary. Although the main conflict doesn't really have as much significance as I would've expected, it still earned a place in my favourites shelf. I'll definitely pick up more books from Charlotte Penn Clark, and you should too!

[Review] Beauty of the Beast By Rachel L. Demeter

Beauty of the Beast
By Rachel L. Demeter
(Fairy Tale Retellings #1)
Published: March 15th 2017

Experience the world’s most enchanting and timeless love story—retold with a dark and realistic twist.

A BEAST LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF HIS PAST

Reclusive and severely scarred Prince Adam Delacroix has remained hidden inside a secluded, decrepit castle ever since he witnessed his family’s brutal massacre. Cloaked in shadow, with only the lamentations of past ghosts for company, he has abandoned all hope, allowing the world to believe he died on that tragic eve twenty-five years ago.

A BEAUTY IN PURSUIT OF A BETTER FUTURE

Caught in a fierce snowstorm, beautiful and strong-willed Isabelle Rose seeks shelter at a castle—unaware that its beastly and disfigured master is much more than he appears to be. When he imprisons her gravely ill and blind father, she bravely offers herself in his place.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Stripped of his emotional defenses, Adam’s humanity reawakens as he encounters a kindred soul in Isabelle. Together they will wade through darkness and discover beauty and passion in the most unlikely of places. But when a monster from Isabelle’s former life threatens their new love, Demrov’s forgotten prince must emerge from his shadows and face the world once more…

Perfect for fans of Beauty and the Beast and The Phantom of the Opera, Beauty of the Beast brings a familiar and well-loved fairy tale to life with a rich setting in the kingdom of Demrov and a captivating, Gothic voice.

* * *

Beauty of the Beast is the first standalone installment in a series of classic fairy tales reimagined with a dark and realistic twist.

Disclaimer: This is an edgy, historical romance retelling of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Due to strong sexual content, profanity, and dark subject matter, including an instance of sexual assault committed by the villain, Beauty of the Beast is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I receive an arc of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Being my favourite fairytale ever and with the new film adaptation that just came out recently, it seems that looking for all things Beauty and the Beast has become my current obsession (if not always). And picking up this book is definitely a great decision.

Rachel L. Demeter had managed to come up with a brilliant twist to the dark original story of Beauty and the Beast, and I can’t get enough! the writing was so enchanting I can’t help being totally invested in the story. Beauty of the Beast has got to be one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever came through. If not for the fact that my friends keep on dragging me out, saying that “I need to live,” I would’ve probably finished this book a lot sooner. The characters and their development had also earned themselves extra points. I really enjoy watching the main characters grow from perfect strangers to start caring for each other.

Overall, this book deserves a 5 perfect stars. That’s all I’m going to say.
