When Nadia’s family moves to Captive’s Sound, she instantly realizes there’s more to it than meets the eye. Descended from witches, Nadia senses a dark and powerful magic at work in her new town. Mateo has lived in Captive’s Sound his entire life, trying to dodge the local legend that his family is cursed - and that curse will cause him to believe he’s seeing the future … until it drives him mad. When the strange dreams Mateo has been having of rescuing a beautiful girl—Nadia—from a car accident come true, he knows he’s doomed.

Despite the forces pulling them apart, Nadia and Mateo must work together to break the chains of his family’s terrible curse, and to prevent a disaster that threatens the lives of everyone around them. Shimmering with magic and mystery, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray’s new novel is sure to draw fans of the Hex Hall and Caster Chronicles series, and fans of the hit CW TV show The Secret Circle.

So finally I had a chance to review this. This is a witch novel and I didn't expect it to become one of my favorites. I know it would at least be enjoyable but did not expect the "become one of my favorites" part.

Spellcaster starts of with the usual, female protagonist move to this new place and everything gets weird (I mean the conflict happens). Nadia had always been a witch, even though she was un-trained, and she could see clearly that there is something wrong with Captive's Sound, the place she's moving to. It was like there is some force that is consuming Captive's Sound, everything withered. Even there is something wrong with the peoples in it. Mateo, a guy who lived in Captive's Sound knew he's doomed when his dream came true. For generations, the Cabots (Mateo's family) had been cursed, they all claimed that they could see the future through their dreams. Unfortunately they all ended the same, either going loco or dead by suicide. Or both. He dreamt of rescuing this girl he didn't even know (Nadia) and then it come true. Are they going to be able to break the curse and actually save the town?

At first I was against reading this book because the first few pages reminds me a lot of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia. I'm not saying that it was exactly the same, but the idea of guy dreaming of a girl then meeting her than the witch stuff is alike. But the chapters ahead was actually awesome, because it turns out to be different. I liked Nadia, she's not that bad-ass but at least she fights when she needed to. But Nadia did safe Mateo the male protagonist at some point. Mateo is hot but pitiful at first, I couldn't imagine being him... it would be so frustrating (read it then you'll know what I mean). The other characters was awesome but unfortunately no one actually stays in my heart.

The thing I love the most about this book is the story line. I don't know why but this book is definitely a page turner for me. The conflicts was real, not realistic but I mean the conflict was necessary (it's really hard to explain, sometimes a book had this conflict that was too easy to overcome that it didn't feel like a conflict at all).

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely in my list of favorite witch novels. Recommended to you who love witches, twists, and cute boyfriends and little brothers.
