Always For You (Always Love Book 1)

Maureen Evans has had a crush on Smith Harrington since they were in college together. She always knew he didn’t see her as anything more than his best friend—just one of the guys—but that didn’t stop her from weaving sexy fantasies about him.

Now, after years of maintaining a long-distance friendship, Smith’s moving to Burton, Georgia, Maureen’s hometown, to become her partner at the veterinary clinic. After all this time, she should be able to handle working with him without getting hot and bothered.

Or maybe not.

The more determined Maureen is to maintain their just-friends bond, the more Smith seems intent on testing those boundaries. And when flirting crosses the line into something more, it ends in a night neither of them can forget.

When friendship is no longer enough, there’s always love.

I received a copy in exchange of an honest review
I have to say I am quite disappointed. I absolutely love those friends to lovers novels and I might have too high expectations after I read the blurb. Maureen Evans and Smith Harrington had been best friends since a long time, and also secretly in love with each other. After seeing each other be with someone else, without caring about the spark, both Maureen and Smith were sure there's no hope for more than friendship between them, since they thought the other are only interested to stay friends. Now, after years of long-distance friendship, Maureen offers Smith to work with her as a vet and stay in the apartment above her. Being in one city, one roof, and one office, soon they both are forced to face their feelings. For real this time.

The plot was really simple, and it was both a plus and minus point for me. Tawdra Kandle's ability in elaborating the simple plot with a neat and beautiful writing style is definitely a plus point, this sole reason is actually the thing that helps me finish the book. On the contrary, the simple plot might also be too flat for my taste. The story is really just about both main protagonists liking/loving each other without saying anything about it, sure there are reasons for it but after a few chapters of them gazing lovingly at each other from a far and tons of unnecessary fillers, it finally reached a point where it all became exhausting. Like people get a grip already! just kiss each other and be done with it. I swear the conflict is all in their head.

I do love the author's neat writing style, just not some part of the plot and the unnecessary conflict. The characters are also not bad, I adore both protagonists together despite all the hard work, and the side characters are all totally likeable and amazing toward the main characters.

Overall, I am sad to say that I fail to click with this book, although I did finish it. Would not really recommend this book but I have to say, it was definitely cute and I did see quite a lot of positive reviews so maybe you should try it out and see for yourself. This is my first time reading Tawdra Kandle's work and I would totally still give her other works a chance, if only for her amazing writing style.
